Sustainable features showcased at new Bendigo TAFE building

THE BENDIGO Regional Institute of TAFE will spend over $700,000 in Federal Government funding to install sustainable features at its Charleston Road campus.

Its new trade centre will boast a new geothermal heating and cooling system, as well as photovoltaic panels, sophisticated solar lighting, light controls as well as solar hot water and recycled water facilities.

Federal Climate Change Minister Penny Wong said the high-profile project demonstrated innovative water and energy-saving initiatives.

She said it was important to showcase innovative ways of saving water and energy as the country works towards tackling climate change.

Wong said the recycled water facilities, including the installation of 300,000-litre storage tanks to collect rainwater for irrigation and connect to the existing Coliban recycled water stream to supply water for toilets, would save about 1.7 megalitres of water a year.
